Collaborations

This multi-organization partnership works to connect mathematical scientists in business, industry, government, and academia through various channels and efforts, with an emphasis on building job opportunities and increasing knowledge about internships.

COMAP is a mathematics education non-profit organization that has worked with educators, students, businesses, and industry to support and create learning environments where mathematics is used to investigate and model real issues in our world. SIAM and COMAP work together on several projects including the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Mathematical Modeling Education (GAIMME) report, the SIAM Awards in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling, and the Math Modeling Hub. The Math Modeling Hub is funded by COMAP, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and SIAM and aims to facilitate the integration of mathematical modeling in classrooms.

The MAA and SIAM collaborate on the NSF-funded Preparation for Industrial Careers in Mathematical Sciences (PIC Math) Program. Also, SIAM annually sponsors two MAA Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) Fellows. Project NExT is a professional development program for new or recent Ph.D.s in the mathematical sciences that addresses all aspects of an academic career.

The MathJax Consortium is a venture to advance mathematical and scientific content on the web. SIAM and the American Mathematical Society are founding partners.

SIAM is proud to partner with MathWorks, the leading developer of mathematical computing software, on the MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge. In this contest, sponsored by MathWorks and organized by SIAM, high school students in the U.S. and sixth form students in England and Wales experience what it’s like to work as a team to tackle a real-world problem under time and resource constraints, akin to those faced by professional mathematicians working in industry. M3 Challenge awards $100,000 in scholarships and is entirely internet-based with no registration or participation fees.

The MGB-SIAM Early Career Fellowship is a joint commitment by Mathematically Gifted & Black and SIAM to recognize the achievements of early career applied mathematicians – particularly those belonging to racial and ethnic groups historically excluded from the mathematical sciences in the U.S. – in the wider applied mathematics and computational sciences community.

Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society dedicated to inspiring an interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is the world's largest mathematics education organization. SIAM works with NCTM and COMAP in the joint Math Modeling Hub initiative, which is funded by COMAP, NCTM, and SIAM and aims to facilitate the integration of mathematical modeling in classrooms.

SIAM works closely with TPSE Math whose vision is that post-secondary education in mathematics will enable all students regardless of their identity, background, or chosen program of study, to develop the modern mathematical knowledge and skills they need for productive engagement in society and in the workplace.
