Section Purpose

Since its formation in 1988, the SIAM Great Lakes Section has organized its annual conferences around themes reflecting its members' interests in applied mathematics, as those interests have evolved over time.

Activities

The section holds an annual meeting every spring consisting of keynote lectures and contributing talks. Topical disciplines have included Computer Aided Design, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Numerical Solutions of PDEs, Complex Systems, and Bio-Mathematics. About 10% of the section members work either in industry or in government; about 90% belong to academic staff or are students.
