SIAM Activity Group on Algebraic Geometry Agnes Szanto Early Career Prize

Established in 2016, the prize is awarded to an individual in their early career for research contributions to the field of algebraic geometry and its applications. In 2024, the prize was renamed in memory of mathematician Agnes Szanto.

Prize Description

The SIAM Activity Group on Algebraic Geometry Agnes Szanto Early Career Prize (SI(AG)2 Agnes Szanto Early Career Prize) is awarded every two years to one outstanding early career researcher in the field of algebraic geometry and its applications for distinguished contributions to the field in the three calendar years prior to the year of the award. The contributions must be contained in a paper or papers in English in peer-reviewed journals.

Eligibility Criteria

The research must contain significant contributions to algebraic geometry and its applications. One key paper must be cited as evidence of the contributions, though a body of papers may be discussed in the nomination. The qualifying key paper must have been published in English in a peer-reviewed journal in the three calendar years prior to the award year. The key paper must have been published no more than three years after the candidate received their Ph.D. The committee may consider exceptions to the three-years-from-Ph.D. rule, for career interruptions or delays occurring, e.g., for childbearing, child rearing, or elder care.

For the 2025 award, the paper must have been published between the dates of January 1, 2022 - December 31, 2024. The candidate must have received their Ph.D. no earlier than 2019 or may be a current graduate student.

  • Nominator’s letter of recommendation for candidate (no more than two pages), including citation of 25 words or less
  • Candidate’s CV
  • Bibliographic citation for candidate’s key contributing paper
  • One letter of support from an expert in the field

About the Award
