Established in 2018, the prize is awarded to an early career researcher for recent research contributions in the field of geometric design and processing.

Prize Description

The SIAM Activity Group on Geometric Design Early Career Prize (SIAG/GD Early Career Prize) is awarded every two years to an early career researcher who has made outstanding, influential, and potentially long-lasting contributions within five years of receiving the Ph.D. or equivalent degree as of January 1 of the award year. At least one of the papers containing this work must be published in English in a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceedings.

Eligibility Criteria

The contributions for which the award is made may belong to any aspect of geometric design in its broadest sense. This includes significant research contributions to the mathematical and computational issues that arise in generating and processing geometric information, influential applications of geometry in industry, and exceptional achievements regarding the popularization of geometric design to the general public.

The committee may consider exceptions to the five-year rule, for career interruptions or delays occurring, e.g., for child bearing, child rearing, or elder care. The award can be received only once in a lifetime.

For the 2025 award, the candidate must have been awarded their Ph.D. no earlier than January 1, 2020 and no later than the nomination deadline.

  • Bibliographic citation for candidate’s key paper
  • Two or three letters of support from experts in the field

About the Award

The SIAG/GD Early Career Prize includes a certificate containing the award citation. As part of the award, the recipient will be invited to give a brief plenary talk at the conference. SIAM will reimburse the recipient for reasonable travel expenses incurred in attending the award ceremony and giving the talk.

The prize will next be awarded at the 2025 SIAM Conference on Computational Geometric Design.

Award Presentation

The Chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Geometric Design and the Chair of the Prize Committee will announce the award at the SIAM Conference on Computational Geometric Design and present the award to the recipient. An announcement of the award will appear in SIAM News, on the SIAM Activity Group website, and in the SIAM Activity Group Newsletter.
