Public Event

The Role of Mathematics in Solving the World's Main Challenges

A fun evening of TED-style talks emphasizing the contributions of mathematics and computational science to understanding climate, energy, the cosmos, and life itself. Featuring well-known computational scientists Luke Bennetts, Kate Evans, Magnus Fontes, Caoimhe Rooney, Karen Willcox, and Bert Zwart. Open to the community of Amsterdam.

Affinity Groups

Affinity Groups are designed to help students and early career conference attendees get the most out of CSE23. Each Affinity Group consists of 10-12 students / early career attendees and a leader from the CSE community, all who share common interests in CSE. Groups navigate the conference together, sharing highlights and perspectives. Sign up to lead or participate in an Affinity Group during early registration

SIAM Hackathon

Committee

Wolfgang Bangerth, Colorado State University, U.S.
David Gleich, Purdue University, U.S.
Dirk Hartmann, Siemens Digital Industries Software, Germany
Jeff (Jeffrey R) Sachs, MSD, U.S.
Jesse van Doren, Hackathon Op Maat, Netherlands

The SIAM Hackathon is happening February 25-26, 2023 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as part of CSE23 (though no registration for CSE23 required). This two-day event is focused on creating cutting-edge mathematical solutions to real-world problems in industry. During these two days, you will work with a team to solve a specific and real problem using applied mathematics. These challenges will be provided by one of the participating industry partners. More information about the challenges will be available soon.

Why you should participate in the SIAM Hackathon:
  • Experience the excitement and pressure of a hackathon
  • Meet and work with new people with different backgrounds from all over the world
  • Mentors and experts will guide you along the way
  • Work on a real-world question from a leading industry partner
  • Contribute to groundbreaking solutions that can transform the industry
  • Prizes! (more about this soon)
  • Participation is free of charge
  • Food and drinks are on us!
Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for 125 emerging talents (students, Ph.D. students and post docs) in the field of computational science and engineering who combine deep algorithmic knowledge, strong implementation skills, and a visionary mindset. Participants are coming from all over the world! Participation is independent from participation in the SIAM CSE23 conference.
